A Message from june
June Castonguay MA, LLPC, NCC, CCTP
The decision to pursue a graduate degree in Counseling and become a Licensed Professional Counselor was born out of a desire to make a difference in the world by helping individuals navigate the changes in their life. I believe we all have tremendous potential, but sometimes we just need a little extra help and insight to lead a life we think is worth living. I love working with all kinds of people - young, old and in between.
In addition to my Master’s degree in Counseling with a clinical mental health emphasis from Spring Arbor University, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. This means I have specialized training in treating individuals who have traumatic experiences which are impacting their ability to fully enjoy life.
My twenty-five years of professional experience working with children between the ages of six and fifteen in classroom and informal settings makes me uniquely qualified to work with children/adolescents. Anxiety, depression, ADD, ADHD and many other disorders can affect a student's ability to function in the classroom. I am especially passionate about advocating for a student's best learning environment, and can help you work with the school system to by recommending appropriate accommodations for your child. I have been involved with 504 plan and IEP meetings both as a teacher and as a clinician.
In working with children and pre-teens I utilize directive play therapy as well as other alternate treatment methods, like art and drama. I have nine continuing education credits in play therapy. In addition, I did my internship under play therapist, and gained very practical experience. Click here to watch a video about why play therapy works.
Some of the ways I practice are with individuals and group counseling sessions. Your therapy sessions will be confidential and collaborative. I might perform clinical assessments so we can make sure to use evidence-based treatments. We will work together to develop a treatment plan based on your goals. I enjoy working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages and genders.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you meet your mental health and life goals.
